This individual and bespoke house development in Haworth overlooking the Bronte countryside presented a challenging site with sloped topography. Accommodation is planned over three floors with a design that staggered in section to enable the building to sit in to the slope of the site. This approach maximized floor area whilst maintaining a mass and scale that remains in keeping with adjacent properties on the street scene which are all of 2 storey construction. The mass of the building when viewed from Sedge Grove was critical from a planning perspective and the design approach enabled the development of a distinctive and exclusive family home with space that opened up more generously as you traveled through the property.

Accommodation comprises of 4 double bedrooms including 2 with en-suite facilities and family bathroom at First Floor level, large kitchen, dining room, lounge and sunroom and utility spaces including double garage at Ground Floor and a large open Playroom and further utility spaces at Lower Ground Floor.

The Ground and Lower Ground Floors are connected audibly and visually by the incorporation of two voids cut into the floor to provide a more open feel and maintain a connection between the rooms. The main entrance to the property is at Ground Floor level facing Sedge Grove and to the rear of the property the reception rooms, in particularly the sunroom and terrace, raised above Ground Level on this side of the building, take advantage of extensive views of the Bronte countryside. At Lower Ground level the Playroom has a substantial glazing to the North elevation which can be opened up and connects the house to the garden.

We particularly enjoyed our work in connection with this project developing a close working relationship with our Client to develop a prestigious family home. The project was completed in 2011.
